“When I hired the troupe, I did not question his appearance. Ranon had a fearsome reputation as the leader of one of the most successful mercenary groups in the wilds, and as long as he kept me and my research safe, I cared not how he looked. I never thought he would be one I could study until the Incident with the highwaymen.

When they came upon us, it was nearly dusk. The shadows had begun to grow longer, and it was the perfect time and place for an ambush. When a group of Dwarves and Humans attacked from the rocks, Ranon sprung like I had never seen any creature spring. What I had thought was a deformed Drakin charged with a fury in his eyes, and while there certainly was fire coming from him, it certainly wasn’t exiting his mouth. It was then, and only then, that I realised that Ranon was at least partially not of this world."

—Cilenor Henriot, Magical Ancestries: It’s in our Blood!

Throughout the years since the severance, those who found themselves possessing magical powers often took to applying it in the study of the world around them, discovering it’s properties and how it interacted with the world. There were many new wizards who turned to these sorts of scholarly pursuits for various reasons. 683 years after the severance, a group of elven wizards made a world-shattering discovery: there are more worlds besides tuirillia. This discovery has been one of the best kept secrets of the worlds governments, keeping it a rumor among the general populous. Several of the human kingdoms that worshiped the damus as a state religion quietly declared the information heresy, and bringing up the rumor of other worlds is met with swift correction by the clergy. However, the undeniable truth is that there are other worlds, other planes of existence, and at least some of them seem to have a stake in the events of tuirillia. Unfortunately, this is solely due to the actions of the elven wizards who made the discovery, for in doing so they made contact with extra-planar beings, and signaled to them that their world was ripe for the taking. Their method for conquering? The Planetouched.

There are 3 worlds known to be actively interfering in Tuirillia through the Planetouched: the Mārisan, the Nergahlian, and the Abyssal. We do not know the extent of their machinations, but, through observing their creations, we have inferred that they are all very advanced and powerful societies, and that their intentions are nothing less then total domination of this world, through one means or another. They leave their mark on all who come into contact with them, and that mark passes from generation to generation, only showing itself in a select few within each. Those in which the mark manifests are what the scholars call the Planetouched.

The Planetouched take on aspects related to the original influence on their bloodline. Those touched by the Mārisan tend to be fair, beautiful, and nearly blemish-less. They are taller, slimmer, and more physically fit than their original race, and some even grow wings, which is often written off as a unique effect of the severance on that person. The Nergahlian are nearly the opposite, and are often mistaken for malformed drakin. Smooth skin like a human, colored like a drakin, a tail like a lizardman, and wings and horns on the particularly unlucky. However, they retain a great physical strength and intelligence from their fiendish ancestors. The abyssal, well, they’re rather different. The plane they get their ancestor from is full of dark, malevolent creatures who desire control and destruction. The spawn of that plane and those decending from it gain darker skin, usually tinted some unnatural color, and are often bald(if they were a race with hair to begin with). They tend to inherit less in physical traits, however, and more in personality and mental traits, and even some unique magical abilities.
